1. Bald Uakari
The Amazon rainforest is home to the Bald Uakari monkeys. Eww, strange! These must be the first words that will come to your mind after seeing this monkey. These monkeys with red faces are usually short-tailed monkeys with bald heads, scarlet faces, and tufted whitetails. These hideous monkeys are not that difficult to identify. Their red face is one of the most strange things about them. Besides, they represent vigor and activeness. If we talk about their size Uakaris are generally small in size.
It has a body length of about 12 inches. Their average weight is from two to four pounds. Notably, males have bigger sizes than females. They are frequently referred to as “scarlet fever uakaris.” Do you know why? It is because of the blood veins on their face that are not too beneath the skin and it makes their skin look red. Their conservation status is vulnerable, as of now. However, there are currently several conservation initiatives in action to help safeguard these amazing species.

2. Proboscis monkey
The proboscis is one of the ugliest-looking animals in the world. The weirdest thing about them is their bulbous nose, which can grow as long as 7 inches and hence is listed as one of the animals with big noses in the world. Yes, you read that right. The funniest thing is that this monkey uses its nose to attract female monkeys. Their nose is not only long but fleshy too. These monkeys are mostly found in Borneo and they generally reside near the rivers, on the mangroves, or swamps. As far as their diet is concerned, they feed on leaves, insects, seeds, and some fruits as well. Their nose may look ugly to us but it plays a crucial role in their mating life, as said earlier, to attract females. It is also listed as one of the animals with big lips in the world.

3. Chacma Baboon
Here comes one of the highly social species, that is, Chacma Baboon. Southern Africa is home to this species. Of all the baboon species, they have the most unremarkable and weird appearance. Do you know why? These monkeys are not only large but quite hairy too and strangely the length of their arms is bigger than their legs. Chacma baboons also have sharp canines, long snouts, and sharp angles on their faces. Thus, they are frequently referred to as “dog-faced monkeys.” The males are bigger than the females. The average weight of a female Chacma Baboon is around 15-20 kgs, whereas a male weighs between 30-40 kgs. They generally live in troops of 15-100 individuals.
4. Tarsier
They are one of the most strange-looking and cutest monkeys in the world. They have huge eyes that can scare you. However, their huge and intimidating eyes help them see in the dark, that is to say, they are nocturnal. They are very small in size and their length varies between 3.5-6 inches (exclusive of their tail). There is a weird fact about their tails, they have no hair. Another distinct fact about them is that the Tarsiers are carnivores, they feed on bats, snakes, insects, etc. These creatures are confined to Southeast Asia and are mainly found in countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
5. Spider Monkey
No wonder there are many strange-looking monkeys and animals with long tails in the world, however, spider monkeys may be quite eerie. Do you know how they got their name? It’s actually from their limbs and legs that look quite similar to the legs of a spider. They are great swingers and can get around from one tree to another very smoothly. They can not only swing on the trees but can also walk all over the ground. Their appearance may not be that appealing but they have a sharp mind. They are so intelligent that they use tools to hunt their food or scratch their bodies. These creatures are more than their appearance.
6. Red-Faced Spider Monkey
The red-faced spider monkey is unattractive, or at the very least, has quite an odd appearance. Its other name is Guiana spider monkey or red-faced black spider monkey. They are native to the northern part of South America. Their appearance may be weird but they have strong limbs and legs. Being herbivores, they feed on fruits, buds, and seeds. These creatures are not monogamous, that is to say, they mate with 3-4 partners during the breeding season. As per the IUCN list, these monkeys are classified as Vulnerable.

7. Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey
Here comes an old-world monkey that can only be found in mountainous forests of southwest and central China. In China, they are commonly known as Sichuan golden-haired monkeys. They have a pretty dull appearance, despite the golden-colored fur-like hair on their body. They enjoy spending their time in the thick branches of trees. As far as their diet is concerned they consume pine needles, floral buds, fruits, etc.

8. Stump-Tailed Macaque
The stump-tailed Macaque is also known as the Bear Macaque and is one of the most popular ugly animals in the world. This weird creature is native to northwest China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Just like the other monkeys, the males are larger than the females. Their average weight is around 7.5-12.5 kgs. Their tail is incredibly short and completely hairless. The most interesting fact about them is that these monkeys have cheek pouches and they use them for storing food. As far as their diet is concerned, they feed on potatoes, barley, corn, etc.

9. Hamadryas Baboon
This creature is not just a monkey. Despite their strange appearance, hamadryas baboons are considered to be sacred baboons. The ancient Egyptians considered them as the creatures who represented the Egyptian god of learning on earth. However, now, there is no trace of this monkey in Egypt. The only places where you can find them are Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia. These monkeys have pink faces and silver manes and are very intelligent. Interestingly, these baboons prefer taking shelter in high places, to protect themselves from their predators like hyenas, leopards, etc.
10. Crab-eating Macaque
Crab-eating Macaques are also known as long-tailed macaques and one of the ugly monkeys in the world. These monkeys are native to Southeast Asia and have an average length of 38-55 centimeters. Their appearance is very dull, but there is much more that adds to their significance. In some cultures, they are considered sacred creatures and they are often used for medical experiments and research. These monkeys are very shrewd and are considered a threat to biodiversity in various areas.
11. Drill Monkey
The drill’s scientific name is Mandrillus leucophaeus and belongs to the family Cercopithecidae. The body length is between 610 to 764 mm in length and the average weight is between 12.5 to 50 kilograms. The avarage lifespan of drill monkeys is between 28 to 30 years in the wild. Talking about the appearance, they have a large baboon with a short tail and a dark grey-brown body. They have a pink mauve and blue rump whereas adult males are distinguished by pink lower lip as well as dark grey to black face and grooves on the nose.

12. Gelada Monkey
The gelada monkey’s scientific name is Theropithecus gelada and is a type of monkey that belongs to the family Cercopithecidae. The body length of a monkey is between 50 to 75 cm and the average weight is between 11 to 18.5 kilograms. The avarage lifespan of a gelada monkey is upto 30 years in the wild. This monkey species is the last surviving member of a grass-grazing primate group and spends much of its time foraging in grasslands. The primary diet includes herbivorous animals, they generally feed upon grasses, blades, seeds, and bulbs.
13. Baboon Monkey
A baboon is a type of monkey known for its rowdy, fierce, socially intelligent, and ugly one too. As of now, five species of baboons are known to humans namely Amadryas, Guinea, Olive, Yellow, and Chacma Baboon. It is also one of the largest monkeys in the world. Male species is larger than females and the face looks similar to the dog’s due to its long, strong snout. The avarage lifespan of a baboon monkey is between 35 to 45 years in the wild.

14. Black Snub-Nosed Monkey
The black-and-white snub-nosed monkey’s scientific name is Rhinopithecus bieti is one of the ugly monkeys only seen in the southern Chinese province of Yunnan, where it is known to the locals as the Yunnan golden hair monkey. The body length of, the monkey is between 74 to 83 cm and the average weight is between 9 to 14 kilograms. These monkey species are active during the day and spend the majority of their life in the trees. The primary diet includes lichen found on trees, however, they are e also seen feeding on bamboo leaves, fruits, and other, more seasonal plants if the opportunity presents itself.
15. Common Marmoset
The common marmoset’s scientific name is Callithrix jacchus is a New World monkey that belongs to the family Callitrichidae. The avarage height of the common marmoset is between 185 to 188 mm and the average weight is between 236 to 256 grams. They have an unusual appearance and several special adaptations. The primary diet of common marmoset includes insects, spiders, fruit, flowers, and nectar, however, they are also seen feeding on frogs, small lizards as well as eggs and chicks of some birds.
16. Gee’s Golden Langur
Gee’s golden langur is one of the ugly monkeys in the world by its appearance that belongs to the family Cercopithecidae. It is also known as the golden langur and is found in the smaller region of Western Assam, India, and the neighboring foothills of the Black Mountains of Bhutan. The body length of Gee’s golden langur is between 50 to 75 cm and the average weight is between 9 to 12 grams. The monkey species belongs to the Old World monkey family and is one of the most endangered primate species in India.
